about

Recorded at Planet J Studios in Cambria, Ca. in 2006. The remaining tracks where recorded at Planet C Studios in Los Osos, Ca.

This song was recorded on a Akai MG 1214. Interesting recorder (google it if you are into vintage audio). It used a special VHS-like cartridge (a MK-20). The unique transport design and noise reduction gave these units a recording quality rivaling that of more expensive 16 track machines using 1" tape.

The tapes for these machines are hard to come by...an obsolete machine...but nice sound.

The remaining album was recorded on a Otari MX5050 8-track reel to reel using 1/2" tape.

About this song: When I moved to the Central Coast, I kept hearing the name Louie Ortega and how he had won a Grammy in music. I was unfamiliar with what style of music he was known for but for the fun of it I wrote this song based upon name and what I thought his music might sound like. At the same time, I consciously wanted to come up with something inspired by the Small Faces. In the end, it came out different from what I had expected. Parts of it remind of a lost Doors track from the sound of Justin's Gibson organ.
